love of freedom
We can have our freedom taken away, beaten down, and repressed, but our true nature will always wait for a chance to break free and express itself. In every cell there is a love of freedom that never dies. Whether we are aboriginals in reservations or white wage slaves in debt, we want it backour feelings, our rights, our land, our people, our freedom.
This is a soul anthem. It came to me when I was walking on a dirt road out in the country. As I walked along, watching the birds in the trees, I could hear all the voices and instruments just as we eventually laid them down. The soaring gospel-style vocals of Melissa, Ludlow, Celia, and Alicia elevate the whole song to another level. The steady Motown snap of Peter's drums, Jesse's bass, and Christine's crisp electric guitar lay the foundation for Drew's lush Hammond swells and Leslie speaker vibrato.
